Govt orders probe after video shows Kerala firm employee made to ‘crawl like a dog’

Kerala’s Labour Ministry has ordered a probe after a video showed a purportedly shows an employee of a state-based firm forced to crawl on all fours with a leash tied to them

The video, which appeared in social media and TV channels, drew outrage, causing Labour minister V Sivankutty to order a probe.  Describing the incident as “shocking and disturbing”, the minister said: “Such a heinous thing should not have happened in Kerala,” he told the media. “I have ordered a probe into the incident and instructed the district Labour officer to submit a report in connection with the incident after carrying out a probe.”

According to the police, the incident occurred at Keltra, a marketing firm at Perumbavoor, Ernakulam district. The firm’s owner was previously arrested in a sexual assault case.

Later, some employees told a TV channel that those who fail to achieve targets were subjected to such punishments by the management of the firm.

Station House Officer Rajesh M K said the video was recorded around six months ago by a former employee.

“We were told that this was done as part of a training. We have not registered a case yet since no complaint has been filed,” he said.
