Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday expressed his deepest condolences to those who lost their lives in the Goa club fire, calling it “deeply saddening.”

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “The fire mishap in Arpora, Goa is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest. Spoke to Goa CM Dr. Pramod Sawant Ji about the situation. The State Government is providing all possible assistance to those affected.”

The office of Prime Minister also announced that an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF will be given to the next of kin of each deceased in the mishap in Arpora, Goa. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.

At least 25 people were killed, six injured after a fire erupted at a club in Arpora, North Goa, late Saturday night. Police said the blaze began around midnight at Birch by Romeo Lane, a club located in Baga, one of the state’s most popular beach areas.

Out of the 25 killed, four were tourists and 14 staff members of the club.

According to officials, the fire is suspected to have been triggered by a cylinder blast. Multiple fire tenders were deployed, and rescue operations continued into the early hours of Sunday. Senior officers, including the DGP, along with teams from North Goa district, reached the site soon after the incident.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also expressed deep grief over the tragedy, calling it a “very painful day” for everyone in Goa.

He took to X to share his condolences, “I am deeply grieved and offer my heartfelt condolences to all the bereaved families in this hour of unimaginable loss.”

He further said that and inquiry has been ordered to exmaine the exact cause of the fire, and whether fire safety norms and building rules were followed.

“Those found responsible will face most stringent action under the law- any negligence will be dealt with firmly.”

‘Deeply pained’: President Droupadi Murmu expresses condolences

President Droupadi Murmu also extended her condolences to the families of those who died in the fire.

“Deeply pained by the tragic fire incident in North Goa district resulting in the loss of precious lives. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. May they find strength during this difficult time. I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,” she said in a post on X.
