Go through order on Punjab: SC to Kerala Gov office

The Supreme Court on Friday asked the office of Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan to go through its verdict in Punjab’s case, in which the top court held that Governors cannot “thwart the normal course of lawmaking”.

A three-judge bench led by CJI D Y Chandrachud was hearing the Kerala government’s plea accusing Khan of not granting assent to eight Bills.

Pointing out that the November 10 order in the Punjab matter was uploaded Thursday night, the CJI said the court will wait until November 28 to take up the matter again. “You ask the Governor’s secretary to look at it and tell us what your response is,” he told Attorney General R Venkataramani who was representing the Governor.
