Inner Manipur Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam said Monday several “real issues” confront the country, but not discussed in Parliament.

Participating during a discussion on Vande Mataram in LS, he said, “We have been demanding at least a three to five hour discussion on Manipur, but nobody cares”, adding that the debate had little to do with the national song and more with the BJP’s political ambitions in West Bengal.

“Unemployment, pollution, the Manipur crisis—the fact that you still have 65,000 people homeless in Manipur due to this crisis which was caused by the failure of the government to impose the Constitutional order in that state… we don’t discuss…” he said. The true meaning of celebrating Vande Mataram, he said, was to “uphold what we have promised to ourselves in our Constitution”.
