A teenage girl and her uncle’s attempts to save her father from killing himself went in vain when all three were run over by a train near CBI Gate Crossing in Jaipur on Sunday morning, police said on Monday.

The incident happened in the wee hours of Sunday when the man, identified as Sumit Sain (40), video-called a relative informing him of his intention to die by suicide. He even showed the railway tracks in the background. Before the relative could extract more information, Sumit disconnected the call, according to the police.

Following this, the relative called Sumit’s daughter Nisha (15) and his elder brother Ganesh Sain (44). They managed to locate Sumit near the crossing and tried to convince him to move away, police said.

As they tried to pull him to safety, the approaching Haridwar Mail struck all three, killing them on the spot, police added.

According to the police, Sumit, a resident of Jai Ambe Nagar of Kho Nagoriyan Colony in Jaipur was suffering from depression.

Tejaswani Gautam, DCP East while talking to The Indian Express said, “To save the man, his daughter and brother reached the railway tracks. They tried to cajole him to get up but he refused and in the process a train hit all three of them, unfortunately killing them all.”

The family identified them through broken mobile phones and torn clothes. The bodies were shifted to the mortuary of Jaipuria Hospital from where the family took them home.
