The injured woman was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by Nitu and Suman. During the investigation, police allegedly found that the two women were involved in the crime.
A woman was attacked with acid in the outskirts of Patna city Sunday evening, with police saying the assault stemmed from a wife’s suspicion that her husband was having an extramarital affair with the victim.
According to Barh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO-1) Anand Kumar Singh, the victim was accompanied by two acquaintances — Nitu Devi and Nitu’s maid, Suman Devi, both residents of the Dakbunglow area in Mokama. Around 6–7 pm, as the three were on their way, two men on a motorcycle approached them near the Surya Mandir.
Three people — the two women allegedly involved in the crime and a man identified as Barh resident Mohammad Ehshan — have been arrested.
“The bike-borne men, who came from the station side, stopped them on the pretext of asking for directions to Begusarai,” the SDPO said. “Before the parlour owner could understand what was happening, one of the men threw acid on her.”
The injured woman was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by Nitu and Suman. During the investigation, police allegedly found that the two women were involved in the crime.
“During the investigation, it was found that Nitu Devi suspected that her husband was having an extramarital affair with the victim,” SDPO Singh said, adding that the acid used was diluted, the victim had not suffered major burns, and was “out of danger”.
According to police, investigations revealed that Nitu Devi, her husband and the victim had argued over the alleged affair a few months ago.

“Despite this, the two women had resumed social interaction and were seen together over the past three to four months. But behind the scenes, Nitu Devi conspired with her maid to attack the victim,” the SDPO said.
Both allegedly planned the assault and paid Mohammad Ehshan Rs 1 lakh to carry it out.
Police are now looking to arrest other suspects, including the pillion rider of the motorcycle, SDPO Singh said.
