The administrator of the Udupi Adanaru Mutt, Govinda Nagaraju, who had organised the event, was also booked.The Udupi Town police in Karnataka have booked one Meenakshi Shaharawat, who describes herself as a cultural orator on her Instagram profile, for allegedly causing public mischief through false statements in connection with a speech at an event in Udupi on January 4 wherein she had questioned Mahatma Gandhi’s contribution to India.
Shaharawat was booked under sections 353 (2) and (3) of the BNS. The administrator of the Udupi Adanaru Mutt, Govinda Nagaraju, who had organised the event, was also booked.
As per the FIR filed on January 5, based on a complaint by Sub-Inspector Punith Kumar of Udupi town police station, Shaharawat, during her speech on “Lessons from Bangla” questioned the title of ‘Father of the Nation’ accorded to Gandhi. She said that Gandhi advocated the principle of non-violence to weaken Hindus, police sources said.
