Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar on Tuesday flagged the potential of “fake social media narratives” to affect the free and fair conduct of elections in the world.
Interacting with a visiting German delegation led by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, he talked about the process of conducting elections in India which has 950 million voters in 1.1 million polling stations. Kumar emphasised that the EC ensured “disclosures and participation of political parties at every stage”.
The delegation, also comprising four German MPs and the German Ambassador to India, met Kumar and Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel at the EC headquarters.
The German Minister was briefed about the use of technology by the EC and also cast a “vote” on an EVM during a demonstration of the EVM and VVPAT.
