    SC orders removal of stray dogs from public premises

    The Supreme Court on Friday directed all states and Union Territories to remove stray dogs from public premises. The SC bench of Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and N V Anjaria directed stray dogs to be shifted to a designated shelter after due sterilisation and vaccination in accordance with the Animal Birth Control Rules. Stray dogs will be removed by the respective jurisdictional municipal body or authority, according to the apex court order. The ruling has come after the SC modified its own order in August on stray dogs in Delhi and the National Capital Region. Read more

    Air Traffic Control glitch triggers massive delays at Delhi airport

    More than 100 flights were delayed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday morning after a technical glitch hit the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system. Flight operations were severely impacted across North India. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) said that the disruptions are due to a technical issue in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which supports Air Traffic Control data. The IGI airport is the country's busiest airport, handling nearly 1,550 flight movements daily. Read more

    US set to start UN negotiations on international Gaza force mandate

    The United Nations Security Council will soon start negotiations on a US-drafted resolution to endorse President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, and authorise a two-year mandate for a transitional governance body and international stabilisation force. The US formally circulated the draft resolution to the 15 council members late on Wednesday and has said it has regional support from Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates for the text.     Ilaiyaraaja hits out at film producers for selling his songs to music labels

    A lawyer representing veteran music composer Ilaiyaraaja has argued before the Madras High Court that film producers cannot freely reuse his songs or sell the rights to music labels and third parties for use in new films. Ilaiyaraaja’s counsel contended that the composer never had an employer–employee relationship with the producers of his films, nor did he grant them blanket rights over his songs. The court was hearing a plea filed by producers Mythri Movie Makers, who sought to lift the interim injunction previously granted to Ilaiyaraaja in September, who claimed that three of his songs were used without authorisation.     NASA to study Mars’s lost air and measure solar storm impact

    NASA is preparing the first dual-satellite expedition to another planet. Escape and Plasma Acceleration Dynamics Explorers, two identical spacecraft, will map the upper atmosphere, ionosphere, and magnetic fields of our cosmic neighbour in three dimensions once they are in the orbit of the Red Planet. The spacecraft will be the first to use a new trajectory to reach Mars. Read more
