North Campus colleges among those still open for admission in third cut-off list

Many Delhi University colleges closed admissions to a majority of under-graduate courses even as a few — including some top colleges — remained open for admission in the third cut-off list released by the university on Monday.

Many Delhi University colleges closed admissions to a majority of under-graduate courses even as a few — including some top colleges — remained open for admission in the third cut-off list released by the university on Monday.

While Hindu,Hansraj and Ramjas in the North Campus remained open in the third cut-off list for many of their arts and science courses — albeit with marginal or no relaxation in cut-offs — Shaheed Bhagat Singh (morning and evening) and Jesus and Mary College closed admission on Monday to all their courses.

At Hindu College,admission is still open to English Honours (with cut-offs down to 80.25). The college also had vacant seats in History Honours but there was no relaxation in the cut-off which remained at 91-99. The college has given a ten per cent relaxation to OBC students in the third list with a cut-off of 81-89. The highest cut-off in the third list was also at Hindu College — 96 per cent for general category students for Physics (H).

Hindu had admitted 964 students to a total of 752 seats by Monday,said acting Principal Dr Pradyumn Kumar. “We have over-admissions in courses like Chemistry Honours,Physical Sciences,etc. We expect admissions in general category to close with the third cut-off,though OBC seats may remain open in the subsequent ones,” Dr Kumar said.

Philosophy and Physics remained open at Hansraj,while at Ramjas College,popular courses like BCom and Economics Honours were among those that will open for admission in the third list.

With a total of 1,022 admissions against 1,089 seats so far,Sri Venkateswara College in the South Campus has come out with a third cut-off list for most courses. While History (H) will admit only OBC students in the third list,other courses such as BCom (H),Eco (H),Political Science (H),Chemistry (H) will be open to general category students as well. However,OBC admissions have been closed for Chemistry (H),Physics (H),Electronics (H) and Maths (H) in the college.

Of the 55 colleges colleges that offer B Com Honours,only 23 remained open for admissions in the general category in the third cutoff list,including Hansraj,Ramjas and Lady Shri Ram.

Of the 35 colleges that offer Economics Honours only 11 will open for admission for general category students on Tuesday. Twelve colleges are still open for admission to English Honours.

In Sanskrit,however,all colleges except Hindu remained open for admission in the general category,with cut-offs as low as 45 per cent. Most courses in most colleges,including Economics Honours in SRCC with a cut-off of 92.5 -93.5 remained open for OBC students. SRCC closed admissions on Monday to BCom Honours under all categories and Economics Honours under general category.

Colleges like Miranda House,Daulat Ram closed admissions with the second list. Moreover,many off-campus colleges like Acharya Narendra Dev College,Gargi,PGDAV,Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Zakir Husain did not have a third cut-off list for science courses.
