EIGHT Class X students were on Thursday arrested by the Dahisar police after they allegedly assaulted two men when they were stopped from dancing to the popular Bollywood song Chikni Chameli by other viewers at a movie theatre in the area.

The two victims, who had gone to the theatre with their family, have been admitted to Kokilaben Hospital, where they are fighting for their lives, said the police. The boys, who are from a school in Dahisar (East),had gone to watch the 3 pm show of the movie Agneepath at Move Gem Theatre after their farewell party on Thursday, they added.

A family of nine from Dahisar, including seven women, were sitting in the seats behind them. Police officers said Louis Vaipy and Amol Vaipy were enjoying the movie. When the song began, the boys who were sitting ahead of them stood up and began dancing.

“Our family including my sister-in-laws and nephew had gone to watch the film. The boys began doing vulgar steps in front of the women. They were dancing so energetically that they stamped on the feet of the women and children around. My brother Louis requested them to stop,But the boys did not pay any heed,” said Amit, brother of the victims.

The boys then left the movie hall on their own, after the manager also asked them to sit and watch the movie quietly.

“After the movie, when Louis and Amol and my family came out,the boys along with a few goons surrounded them and began hitting them with rods and sticks. They also damaged our two cars, warning the public to stay away or get killed. Amol and Louis,as well as Amol’s wife Archana and Louis’s wife Anne, who is pregnant, were injured,” added Amit,an estate agent.

The Dahisar police officers said they had arrested eight of the 10 students allegedly involved, along with a local goon, Ramesh alias Satyanarayan Vishwakarma (24) for rioting and assault.

“We have sent the eight boys to the children’s home in Dongri and produced Vishwakarma before a court, which remanded him in police custody till February 7,” said Sunil Deshmukh,Assistant Commissioner of Police (Dahisar division).

The police are on the lookout for two others.

Punakj Singh, manager,Movie Gem Theatre, said,“The fight took place outside the theatre and not inside.”
