World Telecommunication and Information Society Day celebrated

The MIT Pune’s School of Telecom Management,Kothrud,in association with the Pune Centre of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering celebrated the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.

The MIT Pune’s School of Telecom Management (MITSOT),Kothrud,in association with the Pune Centre of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (IETE) celebrated the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.

Every year,the International Telecommunications Union (ITU),an arm of the United Nations,lays down a different theme of importance and discussions and brainstorming sessions are held on the theme in all member nations.

The theme for this year was Women and Girls in ICT. The chief guest for the occasion,Malathi Srinivasan,country leader — academic initiative,IBM India Pvt Ltd,shared her experiences through her case study on Women and Leadership. She said,“A woman,by her sheer nature and thought process,can bring about balance and perspective to any organisation. It is therefore important for women to keep up with their individuality to create a mark in the field of IT and telecom. It has been observed that it is not men but women who deny themselves success in today’s times. It is therefore important that women seeking jobs utilise the opportunities to the fullest.”

Manju Parkhe,GM-Sourcing,GE Healthcare,the guest of honour,delivered the theme address and stressed the importance of self-branding,awareness,value-system and collaborative efforts for women to progress in the industry today.

Among the other dignitaries who addressed the audience were group captain GM Apte,VSM,chairman Pune Centre IETE and founder president Prof (Dr) Vishwanath Karad. Others who were present included Milind Pande,project director,MITSOT,Prof SS Inamdar,director,organising chair GISFI (ITU) and Hemant Joshi,telecom leader,Deloitte Haskins & Sells India along with several other industry experts.
