The term of the present V-C,R C Sobti, will end on July 22. The Chancellor had constituted an expert committee on February 9,comprising Justice (Retd) Leila Seth as Convenor and Dr P Rama Rao and Ambassador I S Chadha as members,to draw up a panel of three names suitable for the post of V-C from amongst the eligible candidates of Panjab University.

“Subsequently, there have been some queries that the constitution of the expert committee is not in accordance with the University Grants Commission’s regulations on ‘minimum qualifications for appointment of teachers and other academic staff in universities and colleges and measures for the maintenance of standards in higher education 2010”,reads the Cancellor’s communication received by PU Registrar A K Bhandari.

The PU management has now decided to seek the advice of the Central government on the matter of applicability of the above mentioned UGC Regulations to the appointment of the V-C of Panjab University.
