Fund will be used to strengthen infrastructural facilities in the science departments
The expert committee of the Central Department of Science and Technology (DST) has recommended Panjab University to set up the Accelerator facility.
The highly sophisticated-research equipment worth Rs 90 crore will be set up on south campus in Sector 25. The facility will provide a boost to advanced research in the departments of biological and physical sciences on campus and will also be available to scientists from across the country.
With this grant a long-pending demand of the university has been accepted.
The DST has sanctioned the second instalment of Rs 10 crore under the Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence (PURSE) programme,following a presentation made by vice-chancellor RC Sobti in New Delhi in the first week of May.
This grant will be used to strengthen infrastructural facilities in the campus science departments. Research activities and output has increased considerably in the university since the implementation of the PURSE programme.
