Relatives of a school student from north Kashmirs Bandipore town,who won a countrywide competition on Wednesday for designing a new logo for the Presidents Roshni initiative,have responded with joy after getting the news.
A green initiative of President Pratibha Patil that started in 2008,Roshini aims at encompassing environment management and empowering local communities to create eco-friendly urban habitats.
In January 2012,Patil expressed her desire to focus on youth as brand ambassadors for the initiative and to create a new logo for Roshni.
The competition was conducted in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and targeted schoolchildren from classes 5 to 12.
Robin Singh,14,a student of Standard 10 at BSFs Kendriya Vidyalaya in Bandipore,was declared winner after Patil selected his creation as the best among 3,276 entries.
Besides getting Rs 10,000 as cash prize,Robin will also get a chance to work with members of Roshni team who will improvise upon the symbol that he drew.
Principal of Robins school Prem Narayan said the boy is currently away on a school adventure trip in Jammu divisions Kud area and the news will be broken to him once he is back.
This is a very proud moment for the family. Though Robin has won several awards in drawing and art competitions,a prize from the President is extremely prestigious, Robins father Birender Singh,a BSF head constable,told Newsline over the phone.
The prize ceremony was followed by a question-answer round,where students from across Delhi asked Patil questions about sustainable development and how to take Roshni forward.
