Describing the Centre’s scholarship scheme for minority students as ‘discriminatory’,the state BJP unit on Wednesday demanded that it be extended to Hindu students and urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to take up the matter with the Prime Minister.
Such a scholarship is discriminatory as it creates differences among children at such an early age. Therefore it should be extended to Hindu students to cover all communities, state president Pon Radhakrishnan said.
Speaking to reporters,he said the CM should take up the matter with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Radhakrishnan, who had earlier led protests demanding extension of the scheme to majority students also, saying it should be based on economic criteria alone, warned of more agitations in this regard and said BJPs state executive at Nagapattinam on June 16 and 17 will decide further on this issue.
His party would stage a ‘jail bharo’ on June 22 against the petrol price hike and other issues,he said.
To a question,he hit out at DMK chief M Karunanidhi for not doing enough on the inter-state water disputes involving Karnataka (Cauvery) and Kerala (Mullaperiyar) despite (his vparty) being in the Central government.
