Shri Ram College of Commerce’s Economics (Hons) had 59 admissions to its 62 seats available under the second list by Friday.
“We intend to admit 75 students to the course when the list closes,preparing for about 15 withdrawals. OBC seats are still vacant in the course,” said Rajeev Kumar,assistant professor at Economics department and in charge of admissions to the course.
At Hindu,admissions went beyond capacity for BCom and Economics (Hons) courses — 840 students were admitted for 752 seats.
“Most courses — except Sanskrit (Hons),Hindi (Hons) and maybe Philosophy (Hons) and Physics (Hons) — will close admissions with the second list. For OBC students,admissions might close in Maths (Hons) and Physics (Hons). We will have a clear picture only on Monday,“ said Dr Pradyumn Kumar,acting principal of Hindu College.
However,off campus colleges like Sri Venkateswara might bring out a third list. Although courses like Mathematics (Hons) in the college closed in the first list with 241 students being admitted against a capacity of 90,courses like Political Science (Hons),Sociology (Hons) and BCom (Hons) were open in the second list.
“There will be a third list for most of the courses,including Economics (Hons) and BCom (Hons). This is because we have been very cautious with the dip in second cut-off list,” said Dr V C S Rao,spokesperson for the college.
Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College will close general category admissions for most of its courses,but OBC admissions might remain open for English (Hons) and Political Science (Hons).
“Courses like BA (Programme) and Hindi (Hons) might see a third list for general category students,but not the others. OBC admissions might go on till the third or fourth list,” said Dr Sandeep Sharma,Officer on Special Duty at ARSD.
A few colleges also reported withdrawal of admissions. Hindu and SRCC reported 5 to 10 withdrawals,and Gargi College reported 15. Ramjas College,too,reported nearly 15 withdrawals,12 of them in BCom (Hons).
“Most students leave the college because they get an honours course in another college or a college in the main campus or one with hostel facilities,” said Dr Meera Ramachandran,principal of Gargi College.
At SRCC,seven withdrawals were made from Economics (Hons),majority students them leaving for St Stephen’s College,which came out with its list for the course.
