City students outshone district students in the Higher Secondary examination,the results of which were declared today.
This year 7,38,722 candidates enrolled for the examination,of whom 7,14,144 appeared for it. The total number of successful candidates is 5,48,980.
According to statistics from the West Bengal Higher Secondary Council,Kolkata had the highest pass percentage at 89.47,followed by South 24 Parganas with 84.29 per cent,North 24-Parganas with 80.79 per cent. Burdwan,East Midnapore,Howrah,Darjeeling,Jalpaiguri,North Dinajpur secured fourth,fifth,sixth,seventh,eight and ninth positions with 76.81%,88.22%,82.89%,79.63%,64.88%,and 70.96%,respectively.
Sourav Das from BT Road Government Sponsored Higher Secondary School was the topper. Tenth in the Joint Entrance Medical Examination,he wants to study at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital.
I thoroughly followed my text book and that helped me secure a top position, smiled Das.
Koustav Saha,who stood second,from Burdwan Municipal High School wants to study mechanical or computer science engineering from IIT Kharagpur. He secured 62nd position in IIT and he loves reading and watching television.
Soumya Bhattacharya,who came third,is interested in research in physics.
Susmita Halder,third,from Sri Ramkrishna Sarada Peet Girls High School in West Midnapore wants to be a lawyer although she studied science. I also want to pursue post graduate studies in law after completing my graduation, she said.
BT Road Government Sponsored Higher Secondary School performed remarkable well. Three of its students were tanked within the first ten. Ratul Das and Swarnava Chanda,both from this school,secured sixth and eight positions.
