2,500 and counting: DU’s journalism course in demand

In its second year,nearly 2,500 candidates have applied for Delhi University’s Common Journalism Entrance Test,the exams convenor said.

In its second year,nearly 2,500 candidates have applied for Delhi University’s Common Journalism Entrance Test (CJET),the exams convenor said. The test is to be held on June 3 and the merit list will be published on June 12.

BA Honours Journalism is offered by five Delhi University colleges,all of whom conduct admissions through CJET. In 2011,the course had attracted 1,700 applicants through CJET. While applications were fully online last year,offline applications were also begun this time around,and 600 students applied offline.

“The deadline for students who have registered for CJET to submit their Class XII marksheets is June 1,but will be extended till June 5 in case students’ results are not published till then,” said Dr Tarjeet Sabharwal of the Delhi College of Arts and Commerce (DCAC),the exam convenor.

“The deadline will be extended till June 5 only if students from boards yet to declare results request for an extension,” Dr Sabharwal said.

The exam will be held on June 3 from 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm in five colleges: DCAC,Ram Lal Anand,Kalindi College,Maharaja Agrasen,Kamala Nehru.

The course is offered by Lady Shri Ram,DCAC,Kalindi. Maharaj Agrasen and Kamala Nehru colleges. A total of 180 seats are available across colleges for the course.

The CJET merit list will be based on the candidates’ performance in the exam and their Class XII marks. Interviews will be held on June 16,18,19 and 20.

“The number of students called for the interview will be triple the number of seats. Those who qualify for admission will be invited for a centralised counselling session in the University South Campus. It will be attended by representatives from all five colleges offering the course,” said the convenor.

The merit-based counselling for admissions will be held on June 29 and July 3. More sessions will be organised based on availability of seats.
