A PROMINENT industrialist was summoned to the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) office on Wednesday evening following the recovery of new currency notes worth Rs 3 lakh.
ED sources told The Indian Express that the industrialist, Sheetal Vij, was being questioned about the recovery of new Rs 2,000 notes worth Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh in new Rs 100 notes. It is learnt that two managers of Punjab National Bank were also being questioned by the ED over this.
One of Vij’s drivers and two of his staff members were questioned, too.
Sheetal Vij came out of the ED office around 8:30 pm. Vij is one of the largest manufacturers of blankets in the region and he owns several factories where hundreds of workers are employed. Vij did not respond to calls.
A senior ED officer, who wished not to be quoted, said many other industrialists are also on the ED radar and they may be summoned soon.
