A violent confrontation over agricultural land claimed three lives and left five people, including two women and a 10-year-old girl, injured in Madhya Pradesh’s Tikamgarh district on Sunday, police said.

The victims were identified as Chaturbhuj (35), Parmalal (37) and Balram (44), residents of Simra Khurd village in Bamhorikala police station area. They died after being attacked by a group of 8-10 persons with sticks and sharp weapons, police said. Chaturbhuj’s wife Rekha Lodhi (34) and their 17-year-old son, as well as Parmalal’s wife Chunnibai (40) and her 10-year-old daughter, sustained injuries when they intervened.

Said a senior police officer, “The dispute was over six bighas of land at Ramnagar area in Tikamgarh. A case was registered against seven persons, including two women, under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and efforts are on to arrest them.”

The conflict centred on property belonging to Laxmi Prasad Lodhi that was registered under his uncle Ghanshyam Lodhi’s name. When the deceased brothers and their relatives attempted to stop the opposing party from sowing seeds on the contested land using a tractor, the situation escalated into violence.

“The land was ours, and when we were trying to get it released from attachment, they came and stopped us. They beat us badly,” Laxmi Prasad said.

One victim died at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries during treatment at Jatara Hospital. “The injured persons are in a serious condition and have been moved from Jatara Community Health Centre to the district hospital,” he said.
