After a day’s respite the visibility in north India has dropped again as fog blanketed various cities in the region. At Delhi airport, the visibility dropped to 1,000 m (temperature 9 degrees celsius) around 8 AM on Friday, as per the Automatic Message Switching System. It was 2,500 m the same time on Thursday.
Visuals from various areas in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi showed vehicles slowing down as fog reduced visibility on the roads in the morning.

The drop in visibility is a cause for concern as they often result in vehicle pile-ups on the highways.
The fog is not limited to North India. The fog cover extends to the East and Northeast as well.
Delhi Airport’s CAT-3 system allows for smooth flight operations even when the visibility is as low as <300 m. However, some delays and cancellations are still expected when the visibility is low. The airport’s winter advisory reads: “Delhi Airport is prepared for fog situation. Please check with your airline for the latest flight updates. Status of all Air India flights can be checked on https://www.airindia.com/in/en/manage/flight-status.html.
IndiGo on Friday issued a travel advisory, saying: “The fog continues to linger over Guwahati, resulting in slower flight movements. Departures and arrivals to and from city, as well as certain routes across our network, may experience short delays as we work through the weather conditions.” IndiGo passengers should check the latest flight status on the airline’s website or app before heading to the airport: https://www.goindigo.in/check-flight-status.html.
SpiceJet in an X post warned of flight disruptions in Varanasi, UP: “Due to bad weather in Varanasi (VNS), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights might be affected.” SpiceJet passengers can check their flight status at https://spicejet.com/#status.
Similarly, with railway travel, trains may slow down to avoid accidents and passengers must be prepared for extensions of a few hours, especially on long routes.
