Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari said that the party’s plans to distribute a laddoo in each household — meant to express gratitude for the public’s patience during demonetisation — will start from Friday instead of Wednesday, as earlier scheduled.
“Many suggestions were made at meetings with party leaders. One of them was to give a letter of thanks with the laddoo. When we take feedback on demonetisation, it calls for a formal thanks,” said Tiwari. Those letters are yet to be printed, he said.
Party sources added that they will hand out laddoos once they have a new team in place at the district level. “With municipal polls close, the first step is to strengthen the party at the district level. The announcement should be made in a day or two,” said a senior leader.
AAP slams BJP: Celebrating fake achievement
The AAP on Wednesday took on BJP Delhi unit chief Manoj Tiwari for “making fun of those rendered jobless after demonetisation” by distributing laddoos.
The AAP claimed that four lakh migrant workers from Bihar and UP had to go back due to job cuts in the capital. He slammed Tiwari for “celebrating the fake achievements” of the move.
Poorvanchali AAP MLAs Bandana Kumari, Akhileshpati Tripathi and Rajesh Rishi, who addressed a press conference Wednesday, said they were voicing the concerns of the Poorvan-
chali diaspora. “Distributing laddoos is associated with celebration. Is Tiwari celebrating the slump in business in mandis and markets?” Kumari said. ENS
