A teenaged West Bengal girl, who had been travelling from Ludhiana to Sitamarhi via Muzaffarpur, was allegedly gangraped inside the Muzaffarpur collectoriate on Sunday night by five people including driver of an additional district magistrate. The police arrested one of the five accused.
Police said the incident took place when the 16-year-old girl, a resident of West Bengal, had deboarded a train and gone out of Muzaffarpur railway station to eat with Vinod, friend of her brother-in-law. Five people including a Muzaffarpur ADM’s temporary driver Jitendra Kumar beat up Vinod and took the girl to Muzaffarpur collectoriate where the girl was allegedly gang-raped.
The matter was brought to police notice when the girl was spotted crying near Muzaffarpur railway station. A railway police official took her to Town Police station where the case was registered. A team led by DSP Anil Kumar succeeded in arresting one Nikku Kumar, a West Champaran resident who identified four other accused – Jitendra Paswan, a Muzaffarpur ADM’s driver, Gautam Jha (friend of Jitendra), Vikas Tiwari and Dipak Kumar.
Muzaffarpur City SP RK Bhil said: “We are sending a team to Begusarai in search of Jitendra. We are waiting for medical report of the girl”. The statement of the victim was recorded under CrPC provision, said the SP.
Town police station in-charge Nasim Ahmed, who is case IO, said the girl had been travelling alone and Vinod was sent at railway station by her brother -in -law Amritesh, a Sitamarhi resident.
