A 36- year-old software engineer was arrested by the Bangalore Police on Monday afternoon for allegedly murdering his friend’s wife at her residence in Ulsoor in East Bangalore.
The accused has been identified as Basudev Jena, a resident of Domlur in East Bangalore and a native of Jagatsinghpur in Orissa. He was employed as a software engineer with the IT firm Mindtree. He is accused of killing Prachi Das, 33, a resident of a rented house in Domlur.
The accused and the victim were living in separate rented houses in the same building. The victim Prachi Das and her software engineer husband Debashish Das hail from Orissa and had married eight months ago.
The murder came to light at around 2 pm on Monday when the house owner Saraswati who lived in the building heard noises from her tenant Prachi’s house.
When Saraswati went to Prachi’s house to find out what was happening she saw the accused Jena emerging with blood stains all over his body and a knife in his hand. The house owner began screaming for help and a few neighbors rushed to the crime scene and managed to nab Jena red handed.
The police was soon called and informed about the incident. The Ulsoor police arrested Jena who reportedly confessed to his crime. He however did not reveal the motive behind the killing.
Police claimed that a financial dispute between Jena and Prachi’s husband lead to the murder. Police said that Jena went to Prachi’s house on Monday with ice cream.
“We found ice cream at the crime scene. We are questioning him on this aspect,” an investigating officer said.
Prachi had married to Debasish Das a software engineer at Wipro on June 6, 2014. The couple had settled in a rented house while Jena was living alone in a separate home in the same building.
