Rape accused attempts suicide in Jamnagar court

A Division police have booked a case of attempt to suicide against Pirzada and started further investigation.

A RAPE accused allegedly tried to commit suicide by consuming poison on the premises of a court in Jamnagar city on Friday and was admitted to a hospital in serious condition.

Nadim Pirzada, who is in judicial custody for allegedly raping a minor girl, consumed poison from a vial in the lobby of Jamnagar district and sessions court at 1:15 pm and tried to commit suicide, police said.

Pirzada, who was booked last year by Khambhaliya police after he allegedly raped a minor girl there, was lodged in Jamnagar district jail and was brought to court for hearing when the incident took place, A Division police of Jamnagar city said.

“Pirzada was brought to the court with other six accused. While he was sitting in the court lobby, somebody gave him the small bottle of poison which he consumed,” A Division police inspector Jayvantsinh Jhala said.

After he consumed poison, Pirzada was rushed to Guru Govind Singh General Hospital in Jamnagar where his condition was reported to be stable.

“Doctors are telling that he consumed formulation which is used for treating skin disease. They are further telling that the patient is stable and that next 48 hours will be crucial,” the police inspector further said.

A Division police have booked a case of attempt to suicide against Pirzada and started further investigation.
