Police rewards brothers who helped nab robber

The presence of mind and courage shown by three brothers who chased robbers and overpowered one has won them a cash reward and commendation roll from the Delhi Police.

The brothers – Lakhvir Singh Saini,Ranbir Singh Saini and Harbir Singh Saini – chased three robbers who had decamped with mobile phones and cash from a shop owned by the three brothers in Preet Vihar area in East Delhi on March 23. They overpowered Arif,one of the robbers.

The Saini brothers were awarded with Rs 15,000 each and presented with commendation roll by Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal on Thursday. “The actions exhibit exemplary courage and bravery of the three brothers. If people help the police in this manner,a lot of cases can be worked out,” Dadwal said.

According to the police,the robbers – Arif,Javed and Asif – had gone to the shop,Hot Spot,on the pretext of buying a mobile phone. They gave a credit card to make payment but the transaction did not succeed. This led to an argument,after which the trio started firing at the employees in the shop.

“Then they looted mobile phones worth Rs 70,000 and cash of Rs 16,000 and fled from the spot,” Anand Mohan,DCP,East District,said. The Saini brothers,who own the shop,chased the trio and caught hold of Arif and handed over him to police. Arif had fired a shot at one of the brothers,but no one was injured. Police later arrested Javed. Asif is still on the run,Mohan said.
