Mother throws daughter into canal after forcing abortion

The girl was found in an unconscious state Friday in Mainpuri where villagers rescued her and informed the police.

A 17-year-old girl was forced to abort her child and later thrown into a canal in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, by her mother, maternal uncle and aunt Thursday night.

The girl was found in an unconscious state Friday in Mainpuri where villagers rescued her and informed the police. An FIR was lodged on girl’s complaint against her mother and others. Her mother was arrested Saturday.  Mainpuri police said  Raju, of Nagla Sanehi village, informed the police Friday about a girl found lying unconscious near Kanpur-branch of lower Ganga canal.

The girl was admitted to Saifai Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Etawah.  After becoming conscious, the girl told the police she became pregnant four months ago following a relationship with a friend. After her mother found out, she forced her to abort the child.  He r mother, maternal uncle Karu and her sister in-law Abhilakha Thursday took her to a local doctor for abortion, after which they tied her and threw her into the canal.

“It appears to be a case of attempt to honour killing,” Mainpuri SP said.
