Gangster Lakdawala’s aide held for firing on real estate agent

Real estate agent is suspected to be closely associated with Chhota Shakeel gang.

An alleged aide of gangster Ejaz Lakdawala has been arrested in connection with a firing incident in which a 32-year-old real estate broker,suspected to be closely associated with members of the Chhota Shakeel gang,was injured,police officials said today.

Jafar Isaak Madwala (55) was nabbed from suburban Jogeshwari on Thursday for allegedly giving money to the shooters at Lakdawala’s behest,said a Crime Branch official.

With this,the number of those arrested for the October 1 firing incident has gone up to four.

Madwala was remanded in police custody till November 21 by a local court.

He managed the financial matters of Lakdawala in the metropolis for years and had an extortion case lodged against him in 2004,the official said.

Three other accused in the case,Prashant Rao,Nilesh Jatanna and Riyaz Ahmed Shaikh,were arrested on October 14.

The victim,Sohail Khan,was fired upon by two motorcycle-borne assailants,suspected to be Rao and Jatanna,in South Mumbai. The attack was linked to extortion attempt from a construction firm,police said.

According to police,Khan used to provide tiffin boxes to the Shakeel gang members lodged in Arthur Road Jail in 2004 and 2005.
