Family keeps minor ‘gangrape’ victim chained for 4 days

The fact that the girl had allegedly been gangraped came to light after the police rescued her.

Police on Monday rescued a 14-year-old alleged gangrape victim, who was chained by her family at her house in City Kotwali area of Lucknow for the last three days. Police claimed to have acted on tip-off by some locals.

The victim told the police that her father’s elder brother had chained her in the house after she was raped by four local youths — Kushaal, Naseer, Raja and an unidentified one — four days ago. Police have lodged a gangrape case against the accused while the girl’s uncle Abrar has been booked on charges of wrongful confinement of the victim.

Superintendent of Police, Mahoba, Ram Lal Verma said that the girl’s family claimed that she is mentally disturbed, but they failed to produce any medical prescription or any other document related to her treatment.

Station Officer, Mahila Police Station Sangeeta Yadav said they raided the house of the girl after receiving information that she had been chained forcibly inside the house.

During questioning, Yadav added, the girl told the police that she was kidnapped by four youths last week who took her to a secluded place where they raped her. She also said that she reached home later and informed her family members in this regard, the SO said.

Yadav also said that her family members refused to seek police help into the matter while her uncle forcibly locked her in a room of the house.

Meanwhile, Circle Officer, City area, Pradeep Kumar Verma said that the girl had gone missing from her house on March 18 and had returned home on 21. She told the police that the family members assaulted her and later tied her with a chain in a room, Verma added.
