A Delhi Court rejected the bail plea of Bahujan Samaj Party MP Dhananjay Singh and his wife Jagriti Singh accused of the murder of their maid Rakhi Bhadra, who was found dead with torture marks on her body.
Police is investigating the death of the domestic help. The MP has been booked for destruction of evidence and for violating provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act. His wife,a dentist at a government hospital, has been booked for murder, attempt to murder and under the Juvenile Justice Act.
In his statement,Dhananjay Singh had said he was in Jaunpur, his constituency, when the incident happened. However, the police suspect he destroyed up to 20 CCTV cameras at his residence to do away with any evidence of the murder. Jagriti is believed to have actually carried out the killing, which Dhananjay helped to cover up. Other servants at their residence have said it was not uncommon for the couple to physically abuse domestic helps.
Dhananjay Singh’s criminal history is not flattering. Days after being arrested for the death of the maid,a 42-year old woman accused him of raping her several times at gunpoint. Apart from this,Dhananjay Singh has 29 cases registered against him, several of them for murder, attempt to murder and corruption. In Jaunpur police’s books,he is labeled History Sheeter 12A.
