Yerawada police on Wednesday arrested a 22-year-old man on the charges of abducting and raping a 22-year-old employee of a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) firm in Pune where he was employed earlier. The girl who was abducted in the early hours of Sunday was rescued from his flat on Wednesday.
For three days,he allegedly confined her to the flat and raped her.
The complaint was registered by the victims elder sister at Yerawada police station after her friend received a text message from the victim,sent from the suspects mobile phone when he was asleep,police said.
Police identified the suspect as Ashish Rajkumar Goyar who lives in Koregaon Park area.
Police said Goyar reached outside the firm in the early hours of Sunday and at around 2 am,when she was standing at the gate after her shift,approached her and said he wanted to talk to her. The two were in a relationship in the past. On the pretext of talking to her,he took her on his bike to his flat in Tingarenagar. As per the complaint,he had taken away her cellphone and forced her to stay in the flat. On Monday,she managed to send a text message to her sister’s friend from his cellphone when he was asleep. She told her Goyar had confined her to the flat. The sister then approached us and we launched a search for Goyar. Based on a tip-off from informants,we traced them to the new flat owned by Goyar on Wednesday. The victim was rescued and Goyar was arrested.
Police said that in the message,the girl said Goyar had abducted her and wanted to marry her at Alandi. The victim said in her statement that Goyar had raped her in the flat,” said PSI R B Mulani,investigating the case. “They had worked together in the company earlier. He switched over to a new job about four months ago, police said.
Mulani said Goyar has been booked under the Indian Penal Code Section 366 (abducting or inducing a woman to compel her to marriage),376 (rape),507 (criminal intimidation). A court in Pune remanded Goyar in police custody till May 5.
