A local BJP leader was murdered by members of a rival group over past enmity at a village near Tikamgarh, police said.

Azad Singh Yadav was murdered last night when he was taking part in a ceremony organised in the memory of one Ram Singh Yadav, who died early this month,at Bangai village, they said.

Azad,BJP Mandal president of Orchha town in Tikamgarh district, was attacked by a rival group armed with an axe and allegedly led by one Shankar Singh Yadav, leading to his instant death, police said.

According to Orchha Police Station in-charge Munna Babu Tiwari,Azad along with his father had allegedly killed Shankar’s brother Ramji in 2002 over some dispute.

In 2004,a local court had awarded life sentence to Azad in the murder case. However,he was acquitted by Madhya Pradesh High Court’s Gwalior Bench in 2010.

However,Shankar, along with his associates, took the revenge last night,Tiwari said.

Police have lodged a case of murder against Shankar and four others, but no arrests have been made so far.
