Ten days after a five-year-old girl was brutalised and raped in East Delhi,a six-year-old girl was found sexually assaulted and bleeding from wounds all over her body in a men’s public toilet in Southeast Delhi’s Badarpur on Friday.

Police said the child underwent a surgery at AIIMS and her condition is stable.

According to police, the police control room received an alert around 3.30 pm after a man walked into the toilet and found the girl standing semi-nude and crying.

“She had her hand raised and was crying. She was bleeding profusely. She was slashed with a blade on her neck and private parts. The neck wounds suggest that assailant(s) probably tried to kill her,” a police officer said.

Police said the man came out and informed the security guard in the area.

The girl was identified by residents and her relatives were informed, police said. A PCR call was made by her uncle. She was rushed to a nearby hospital and then taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre.

A team of senior doctors from AIIMS,who examined the child, confirmed that she had sustained grievous genital wounds which required surgical intervention and grave blade-like injuries on her neck. Doctors said, prima facie,it appeared that the child was raped, but they were awaiting reports of laboratory tests to confirm rape.

“We examined her under general anaesthesia. There were perineal tears, and it seems as if some foreign object was inserted in her vagina, damaging her genital tissues. But we did not retrieve any object from her genitalia,” a doctor at the AIIMS Trauma Centre said.

“We had to surgically dress her perineal tears. We also inserted a drain to help remove the fluid accumulation, and a colostomy procedure was performed to provide an alternate route for stool,” the doctor said.

The girl is now recuperating in the ICU of the hospital. “Her general condition is stable after the surgery. But she needs close monitoring,” the doctor said.

Police said preliminary enquiries have revealed that the child was playing with her friend outside her shanty and had gone to take a bath inside the toilet. Police have detained the security guard and 22 others with “dubious antecedents” and are investigating the matter.
