Course curriculum review: IIM Ranchi to include a compulsory course on ‘tribes in India’
IIM Ranchi said that the ‘Enrichment Electives’ electives would provide a fresh perspective to students through courses like cinematography, Socratic Dialogues, Water Management, Sports Management, Story Telling, Human Connect, Drama and Theatre, Art and Painting among others.
According to IIM Ranchi website, IPM is a full-time five-year blended course of business studies from undergraduate to postgraduate level (File) In a bid to bring ‘positive change’ in the lives of the students, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ranchi Thursday said that it has introduced changes in compulsory and electives across all first three years–the undergraduate years–of the Integrated Program Management (IPM) including course on ‘tribes in India’ and that student may also learn a ‘ local tribal language’ as part of an elective language course.
According to IIM Ranchi website, IPM is a full-time five-year blended course of business studies from undergraduate to postgraduate level i.e integrated Bachelors in Business Administration and Masters in Business Administration(MBA). The students get awarded an MBA degree at the end of the program.
The electives course will have ‘Enrichment Electives’ which would provide students with a perspective into theatre, arts etc and the compulsory electives will be courses on ‘Tribes in India’, the ‘science of happiness’ among others.
The press release issued by IIM Ranchi stated that IPM has undergone a comprehensive review process for its courses with the perspective of providing a multidisciplinary programme which also includes courses which could bring a positive change to the lives of the students. “…The compulsory courses of the undergraduate part of the IPM has also undergone a sea change with new courses like Science of Happiness, Sustainability, Social Work, and Tribes in India, which aim to provide a holistic learning experience of important life skills while also connecting them to the roots. Students also have the possibility to learn a local tribal language in the language elective course scheduled in the second year.”

The course review also included changes in curriculum post graduate and doctoral programmes. It said that the first year of the post graduate programmes has also undergone a ‘deep change’, and existing courses have been replaced with new courses wherever required to reflect the latest developments. Of particular importance is the introduction of a new course titled ‘Ethical Issues in AI’ in the MBA- Business Analytics Programme, and a course on ‘Ethics, Governance and Sustainability’ in the Executive MBA Programme.
