CJP announces Sept 5 Delhi march over Centre’s ‘unfulfilled’ promises

In a statement, the CJP said the march will begin at India Gate and proceed towards the Delhi Police Headquarters. It said the families of NEET aspirants who died and victims of alleged police brutality will lead the march.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the CJP National Working Committee on Monday.

It said that nearly a month after the commitments were made, there has been little concrete action. It also alleged that the Centre has failed to provide clear commitments on issues raised before the Supreme Court.

The CJP pointed to court proceedings on August 18, when the SC asked the Centre to provide a list of FIRs registered across the country so the court could consider whether they could be dealt with together.

“The patience of young people cannot be mistaken for weakness. Our good faith cannot become an opportunity for the government to betray the young people of this country,” it said in the statement, adding that it would not accept what it described as a “betrayal”.

The CJP has appealed to students, youth organisations and young citizens across India to gather at India Gate and participate peacefully. The organisation reiterated that the proposed demonstration would remain peaceful and democratic, while calling on the government to honour its commitments to the youth “in letter and spirit”.
