A Doordarshan camera assistant, who survived the Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district Tuesday, recorded a personal message for his mother while they were being attacked. In the video, the assistant cameraperson Mormukt expressed his love for mother and said he might not survive the attack.
“The situation here is grave but I am not afraid of death,” he said while recording the video.
Mormukt was accompanied by reporter Dhiraj Kumar and cameraperson Achutynanda Sahu who arrived in Bastar Monday to cover the election where the cameraperson and two police personnel were killed in the Maoist attack.
The two other injured personnel were airlifted to Raipur and are said to be stable.

Dantewada SP Abhishek Pallava said that over the past few weeks, several teams of journalists had visited the area to report on development works and the elections. “People have been telling reporters about how a new road has been built and a teacher visits, bikes were going, and an ambulance could now travel (on the road).
The Maoists have been beating up villagers asking them to cut the new road but they haven’t done it. Because of this, they have attacked in this manner. They killed the journalist in a pinpoint attack and tried to kill the other two as well, but a constable pushed them out of the way and was killed in the attempt,” he said.
