A minor boy was sent to a correctional home on Monday for the alleged sexual assault and murder of a three-year-old girl in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur, officials said. The boy’s uncle has been arrested for allegedly trying to conceal the incident.

According to officials, the boy, who is around 15 years old, sexually assaulted the toddler and then smothered her to death when she screamed.

While looking for her daughter, the girl’s mother was told by a local resident that she was seen with the boy. When the mother reached the boy’s house, officials said, the boy’s uncle told her the girl was not there, after which the mother went searching all over the neighbourhood again.

She then went back to the boy’s house and demanded to see him. When the uncle told her the boy was in the bathroom, she insisted on opening the bathroom door, officials said, adding that when the door was finally opened by the boy after much resistance, the girl was found inside in an unconscious state.

“The girl was rushed to a private hospital, where they refused to admit her. She was then rushed to a government hospital, where she was pronounced dead. A post-mortem report revealed she had injury marks on her private parts,” an official said.
