By-Election Results 2025 Live Updates: Hills bypoll win heightened our responsibility towards people, says CM Revanth Reddy

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday said the Congress party's victory in the Jubilee Hills bypoll has heightened the state government's responsibility towards people, even as he hit out at Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and BRS leader K T Rama Rao for allegedly creating hurdles in the government's development initiatives.

Alleging that Kishan Reddy has adopted a policy of "non-cooperation" in releasing funds and approving projects pending with the Centre, the Chief Minister said the Union Minister, along wiith BRS leaders Rama Rao and T Harish Rao need to change their attitude.

"Congress secured unprecedented people's support by winning 51 per cent of polled votes (in Jubilee Hills). Congress got about 51 per cent votes, main opposition BRS received 38 per cent and BJP managed eight per cent. People observed for the last two years and gave this verdict. That's why, we will take this responsibility," he told reporters.

By-Election Results 2025 Live Updates: Triangular contest in Anta

The Anta seat is witnessing a triangular contest between BJP’s Morpal Suman, Congress’s former cabinet minister Pramod Jain Bhaya, and Congress rebel Naresh Meena, among a total of 15 candidates in the fray.

For the ruling BJP’s Bhajan Lal Sharma’s government, which has been facing some questions over its administration of the state, an election win would be a shot in the arm. Just days ago, in a move that raised eyebrows, Chief Secretary Sudhansh Pant moved back to the Centre, virtually bringing out friction within the government in the open.

The bypoll is also important – to a certain extent – for former CM Vasundhara Raje. Unlike bypolls in the previous Ashok Gehlot government (2018-2023), when a sidelined Raje kept away from campaigning for the bypolls, and Congress ended up winning the majority 0f them, she has now campaigned for the BJP candidate Suman.

For the Congress party, a win would mean that its narrative of Sharma government’s inexperience will gain wind. It will also help stimulate the sluggish state unit of the party. For Ashok Gehlot too, a win will help burnish his image as the Congress candidate Bhaya is considered close to the former three-term CM.

Around this time last year, the BJP had won five out of seven which went to bypolls in the state. The Congress party, which had four seats, managed to win just the Dausa seat. A win now may help the party push forward its perception of the Sharma government.

But perhaps, the poll is most important for Independent Naresh Meena. This is the third time in three years that Meena has rebelled and jeopardised the Congress’s chances. In the 2023 Assembly elections, Meena had rebelled and contested from the Chhabra seat, also in Baran district, as an Independent and finished third, with BJP winning the seat. Last year, he sought a Congress ticket for the Deoli-Uniara Assembly bypoll in neighbouring Tonk but was turned down again. BJP won the seat, and Meena finished second, pushing Congress’s Kastoor Chand Meena to the third position.

If he manages to win, it will be a vindication of his supporters’ claims that the Congress party is apprehensive of his rise and hence has been keeping him out.

By-Election Results 2025 Live Updates: Who is Devyani Rana?

Devyani Rana who is leading by 21,424 votes in Nagrota, holds an Economics Degree from University of California, Los Angeles.

She is the daughter of Devender Rana who had won from Nagrota during 2024 assembly elections by a margin of over 30,000 votes. The National Conference had then ended second runner-up with 17,641 votes and Congress finishing a distant third with 5,979 votes.

However, this time, Congress had decided not to contest the byelection in the constituency and support NC in larger interest of defeating BJP.

The byelection assumed significance as it is considered an acid test for both the BJP and the ruling NC to check their popularity in the area just an year after the former had won from the area and latter formed government in Jammu and Kashmir following 2024 assembly elections.

If NC fails to improve its position in further rounds of counting and continues to remain a distant third during the outcome of final results, it is likely to face tough time from its allies especially Congress who is supporting its government from outside.

By-Election Results 2025 Live Updates: Why this bypoll matters for Naresh Meena

The poll is probably most important for Independent candidate Naresh Meena. This, is the third time in three years that Meena has rebelled and jeopardised the Congress’s chances.

By-Election Results 2025 Live Updates: Mizo National Front’s R Lalthangliana in lead from Dampa constituency

After three rounds of counting for Mizoram’s Dampa by-poll, the Mizo National Front’s R. Lalthangliana has taken the lead over his closest competitor, the Zoram People Movement’s Vanlalsailova. The by-poll, which was necessitated by the death of Dampa’s two-time MLA Lalrintluanga Sailo from the MNF in July this year, is a critical one for the MNF. While it was swept out of power in the state in 2023 by the ZPM, the Dampa seat was one of the only 10 it managed to retain and it is keen to demonstrate that it cannot be written off as a strong regional voice in the state’s political landscape, where it is seen to have currently ceded this space to the ZPM. While the outcome of the bypoll will not affect the ZPM’s hold on the 40-member Mizoram assembly, the burgeoning young party will want to maintain its run of electoral victories, after winning the state’s lone Lok Sabha seat last year as well.
