
By-Election Results 2025 Highlights: It’s counting day for the Assembly bypolls held across six states and a Union Territory on November 11. BJP’s Devyani Rana has won the Nagrota bypoll, while Dr R Lalthangliana of the Mizo National Front won the bypoll from the Dampa constituency by a margin of 562 votes. The runner-up is Vanlalsailova from the Zoram People’s Movement. BJP’s Devyani Rana has taken comfortable lead in Nagrota with Harsh Dev Singh trailing. In Tarn Taran, AAP’s Harmeet Singh Sandhu maintains the lead, leaving SAD’s Sukhwinder Kaur trailing. Congress candidate Pramod Jain takes the lead from Independent candidate Naresh Meena in Anta. Naveen Yadav V of the Congress is leading in Jubilee Hills. JMM’s Somesh Chandra Soren is leading from Ghatsila in Jharkhand and Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi of the J&K Peoples Democratic Party is in the lead in Budgam constituency.

Voter turnout: Turnout varied across states, with Mizoram’s Dampa recording the highest at 82.3 per cent, followed by Anta in Rajasthan (80.3 per cent) and Nuapada in Odisha (79.4 per cent). Nagrota saw 75.1 per cent, Ghatsila 74.6 per cent, Tarn Taran 61 per cent, Budgam 50 per cent, and Jubilee Hills 48.5 per cent. In Odisha, election officials suspended two polling staff for failing to maintain voting secrecy.

Why the bypolls? The seats fell vacant following the resignation of Omar Abdullah in Budgam and the disqualification of Kanwarlal in Rajasthan’s Anta. The remaining six constituencies — Nagrota in J&K, Ghatsila (ST) in Jharkhand, Jubilee Hills in Telangana, Tarn Taran in Punjab, Dampa (ST) in Mizoram, and Nuapada in Odisha — went to polls after the deaths of their sitting legislators.
