Contests to keep an eye on In the previous West Bengal bye-elections, the TMC won five of the six contested seats, including key constituencies such as Taldangra, Medinipur, Haroa, and Naihati. The BJP disrupted the TMC’s dominance by securing victory in Sitai, a northern constituency. This time, BJP leaders were confident about retaining Madarihat and making gains in other constituencies, but the TMC has emerged victorious in all six seats. Meanwhile, Congress, under its new state president Suvankar Sarkar, has fielded candidates in all six seats. In Gujarat, the contest in Vav has drawn attention with Congress’ Gulabsinh Rajput, BJP’s Swarupji Thakor, and independent candidate Mavji Patel, a BJP rebel, locked in a fierce battle.

Bye-poll seats: The seats in contention include six constituencies in West Bengal: Sitai, Madarihat, Naihati, Haroa, Medinipur, and Taldangra. Sitai is reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC), while Madarihat is reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST). In Gujarat, the Vav seat became vacant following Geniben Thakor’s resignation.

Counting of votes for last week’s bypoll to the Vav assembly seat in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district, where ruling BJP and opposition Congress were the main contenders, will be held today.
The counting of votes for the bypoll, held on November 13, will take place at an engineering college in Jagana village, they said.
