Blast outside Army base, suspected ULFA-1 cadre apprehended

Earlier in the day, police had arrested two persons in connection with this matter. Singh referred to this as a “strange coincidence”. A person suspected to be a cadre of insurgent group ULFA – I was apprehended on Wednesday night after a minor blast outside an Army operating base in Assam’s Tinsukia district.
According to sources, the explosion took place around 7.30 pm after two unidentified people on a two-wheeler vehicle moved close to the Army base at Dirak in Tinsukia district. They were spotted by a sentry dropping an unidentified object while fleeing. This object subsequently exploded.
No injures were reported.

“Around 10 pm, a suspected ULFA-I cadre was apprehended with a live grenade from a village named Nongkhong. He is currently being interrogated. Apart from this, search operations are in place in multiple locations,” said a security source.
While commenting on the blast on social media, Assam DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh suggested it may be related to an ongoing investigation into a 2014 cash for jobs scam in connection with the Assam Public Services Commission.
