The Twitter handle of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for Rajasthan sprung a surprise for its followers on Tuesday by wishing former party leader Yashwant Sinha on his birthday. The tweet referred to Sinha as a “senior BJP leader” and “former Union minister.” Party’s other Twitter handles, including @BJP4India, have not greeted Sinha, who has been openly critical of the BJP, had quit it in April this year.
“Four years ago, I had quit electoral politics. Now I am taking ‘sanyas’ from party politics,” he had said at a meeting in Patna attended by Opposition leaders from the Congress and the RJD, besides rebel BJP leader and Patna Sahib MP Shatrughan Sinha.
Praying for good health and long life for Sinha, the tweet also shared an image of Sinha along with Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and state president Madan Lal Saini.
While Sinha is yet to acknowledge the tweet, @BJP4Rajasthan was questioned by some users and party supporters, who said that Sinha has been “going to town lambasting” the BJP.
Hirendra Kaushik, social media in-charge of the party’s state IT Cell, said, “Birthday greetings are different. Even Sachin Pilot and Ashok Gehlot speak against the party but we wish them on their birthdays. It doesn’t mean we are are subscribing to their ideology.”
On September 7, the @BJP4Rajasthan Twitter handle had greeted Congress state president Sachin Pilot on his birthday, wishing him good health and a long life.
