In an apparent articulation of the RSS’s worldview for an American audience, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday said Bharat’s “destiny” was to make the world realise that unity could coexist with diversity, and that the country had to demonstrate this “not by preaching, but by practice”.

Addressing around 5,000 people at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Bhagwat said nations were not merely geographical entities but had a “duty” to perform. Invoking Swami Vivekananda, he said every nation had a message to deliver, a mission to accomplish and a destiny to fulfil, and argued that Bharat’s mission was to demonstrate the idea of unity underlying diversity.
