This takes the total number of arrests in the case to 14.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Saturday detained seven people, including six Bangladeshi nationals who were planning to move to Chennai, from the Udaipur railway station in Gomati district of Tripura.
Among the Bangladeshi nationals, four were minors and the two others were a married couple. The Indian national was identified as Mohammad Hafizul, a resident of West Bengal’s Nadia district. Apart from the minors, all the others were arrested and handed over to the police.
The Bangladeshi couple, identified as Rubel Sheikh and Suraiya, were supposed to travel to Chennai where the woman said her father lives to earn his livelihood.
“All of them came here from Belonia (South Tripura district) at around 8 pm. During our interrogation, they said that they were from Khulna district of Bangladesh. They were handed over to the RK Pur police station,” said a police officer.
Two days ago, six Bangladeshi nationals, including three transgenders, were arrested after they entered the state with the intention to move to other states of India.
A few days ago, three Bangladeshi citizens, including a four-year-old child, were held for illegally entering the northeastern state, with the intention to move to other states via train.
A huge number of Bangladeshi and Rohingya persons were arrested in Agartala Railway Station and different parts of Tripura in the last few months while they were trying to board trains or vehicles out of the state.
