Breaking his silence on the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue, AAP national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Sunday said that “waters of Punjab won’t go outside the state as the state has no water to spare”. Speaking to the mediapersons after addressing a gathering of dairy farmers at Jagraon in Ludhiana, Kejriwal said, “I have been asked time and again by opposition parties to clarify my stand on SYL. I stand very clear on it that Punjab has full right over its waters. It has no water to spare for others and thus we will not allow its water to go outside. Waters of Punjab are its own property and in no case injustice will be done with the state on this issue.”
Kejriwal’s clarification on SYL issue comes after Congress and SAD-BJP constantly questioned the AAP convener over his stand on the issue. They even alleged that Kejriwal changes his statements when he enters Haryana and Delhi and is not ready to take a firm stand for Punjab on its waters. Kejriwal added that “Congress and SAD-BJP should stop fooling people of Punjab on SYL issue.”

“SAD and Congress are not only shedding crocodile tears on the issue but also gaining political mileage out of it. Badal first acquired land for SYL in 1978 and is now trying to act as savior of waters in 2016 by passing resolutions. He should tell if he was wrong in 1978 or now in 2016. The version of SAD-BJP leaders change in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi despite the fact that same alliance is ruling the state as well as the Centre. It was Congress’s Indira Gandhi who is the root cause of entire issue and signed SYL agreement and initiated the construction work with Captain Amarinder Singh. It is only the AAP which can protect waters of Punjab and since Punjab has no water to spare, the question of giving to any other state does not arise,” said Kejriwal.
After addressing the dairy farmers, he addressed the massive ‘Beimaan Bhagao’ rally of AAP-LIP alliance at Dana Mandi on Gill road, the bastion of independent MLA Simarjeet Singh Bains. It was the first rally of AAP with its new alliance partner Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) floated by Simarjeet and Balwinder Bains. Huge crowds wearing yellow caps (of Insaaf Party) and white mufflers (of AAP) thronged the venue. But followers of Bains outnumbered AAP supporters as wave of local leaders thronged the venue. Addressing the rally, Simarjeet claimed that “AAP-LIP alliance is all set to win minimum 107 seats in coming elections.”
“In Lok Sabha polls 2014, like minded voters of Ludhiana got divided as I and HS Phoolka contested the polls. Unfortunately, Congress candidate (Ravneet Bittu) won the polls. Now, it was time for Insaaf Party and AAP to join hands and make dishonest politicians run out of Punjab. As per the latest survey, I came across, AAP-LIP is going to win minimum 107 out of the 117 seats in Punjab. This is when the code of conduct is not yet imposed. The day code of conduct is imposed, I will not be surprised if we make a clean sweep and history is made,” Bains said.
He even addressed Kejriwal as ‘convenor of LIP’ and said, “Sir, you might be convenor of AAP but let me tell you that for us you are also the convenor of LIP. It is your own party.” A former Youth Akali Dal leader himself, Bains added that he is “an eye witness to the SAD-Congress secret alliance”. “Captain had no money to paint walls of his home and auction notice was pasted on the walls of his palace. It was the Akalis who saved him. AAP-LIP will throw these both ‘Beimaan’ parties out of Punjab,” Bains added.
Brother Balwinder Singh Bains even went on to say that ‘Bikram Singh Majithia will be put in Nabha jail for drug trade after AAP-LIP comes to power’. “Majithia is the kingpin of the drug trade in Punjab. We will put him in Nabha jail after coming to power,” he said. Reiterating AAP’s stand on SYL, senior AAP leader HS Phoolka from the AAP-LIP rally stage said, “Today, Kejriwal has clarified the firm stand of AAP on the issue. We are not like Congress who change their statements every now and then. Neither we are SAD who acquired land from farmers to construct the canal. I am reiterating Kejriwal ji’s statement that not a single drop of Punjab waters will go out and neither the state has a single drop to spare for other states. Punjab has the sole right over it.
