Giving details of the fresh infiltration attempt of the militants, Army spokesman said that a group of infiltrators were spotted by the army patrol near Toutmari Gali.

“At 3 am the army patrol intercepted a group of militants, when they were challenged the militants opened fire resulting an encounter. In the operation three militants were killed and arms and ammunition was recovered from the slain militants,’’ said the Defense spokesman. He said that search operation is still in progress. “We have launched operation to trace whether there are any more militants roaming in the area.’’

Army said that Toutmari Gali where from infiltrators tried to sneak into the Valley is still covered with heavy snow. The militants have been using this route from past many years to infiltrate into the Valley due to its tough terrain. Officials said that militants this time where trying to sneak into Valley under the cover of fog as it was continuously raining in the area from past many days.

Last week, four infiltrators were killed in Tanghdar sector soon after they crossed the Line of Control. The militants had taken refuge in a house close to the LoC, one civilian was also killed in the encounter.

Last month three army men and a militant were killed in the same sector when militants targeted an army patrol on the LoC.

Army said that two infiltration attempts were foiled by the alert soldiers on the LoC since January this year in the Kupwara sector. Sources said that with melting of the snow the militants are trying to sneak into the Valley.

Recently Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar during his Kashmir visit was told by the formation commanders that infiltration on the LoC in Kashmir has come down drastically.
