Another Nepal student found dead in Odisha’s KIIT over 2 months after similar incident rocked institute

KIIT Student Death News: More than two months after the suicide of a 20-year-old student from Nepal rocked Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, another student from the country was found dead in a hostel room at the institute on Thursday.

Sources the hostel warden found the girl dead in her room at around 8 pm and informed the police. She was a first-year engineering student of the institute and hailed from Birgunj in Nepal.

Senior police officers, including Bhubaneswar Police Commissioner S Dev Dutta Singh, rushed to the spot. An investigation has been launched.

According to officials, she did not respond when attendance was taken at 7 pm. Afterwards, she was found dead in the room. Commissioner Singh said police reached the spot with a scientific team and that the room was being examined.

“We have registered an unnatural death case and started probe into the matter. If we find that anyone is involved, we will probe all aspects. The hostel students are being questioned to ascertain whether the deceased had any symptoms or if she had shared anything. We have recovered the body and sent it to AIIMS for autopsy,” the Commissioner said.

He said the Nepal embassy in New Delhi has been informed about the incident and they have contacted the parents, who will reach Bhubaneswar on Friday.

The postmortem will be conducted after the parents arrive.

KIIT authorities said the police are investigating and that the institution is cooperating with the process.
