A team of forensic experts visited Amritsar Wednesday and inspected the site of the train mishap and also the DMU involved in the accident. A police complaint, meanwhile, was filed against the Dussehra event’s organiser Sourab Mithu Madan and former MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu by an injured victim, who was accompanied by SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia to the police station. SHO, Mohkampaura police station, Avtar Singh said action would be taken on the complaint only after completion of the investigation.
About the forensic investigation that was carried out by the team from FSL, Mohali, SHO, GRP, Amritsar, Balbir Singh said: “The FSL team was headed by Priyanka Jindal. They have taken measurements of the distance between the Jaura railway crossing and the incident site to calculate the speed and the time for the train to reach the incident site from the crossing. The team also visited Attari railway crossing and checked the speedometer and front lights of the DMU involved in accident.” Railways officials also accompanied the FSL team during its inspection that was carried out in the afternoon.

In high drama that unfolded in the evening, former Punjab Cabinet minister and SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia accompanied Lakhbir Singh, a man injured in the accident, to the Mohkampaura police station and filed a complaint against organiser of the event and Congress leader Sourab Mithu Madan and chief guest and former MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu.
The complainant claimed that people were made to stand on the railways line by organisers as there was no arrangement to sit inside the Dhobi Ghat ground. He also alleged that screens installed in the ground faced railway tracks, a claim that the organiser has denied. Lakhbir Singh, in his complaint, said, “I saved hundreds of lives before getting injured. I got injured on my shoulder. I saw Navjot Kaur Sidhu on the screen when I fell down after getting injured. She left soon after the accident. The programme was delayed by Mithu Madan to wait for Navjot Kaur Sidhu. It is Navjot Kaur Sidhu, who has played with the innocent lives for a show of strength and Mithu Madan arranged it. Many like me are under pressure not to speak.”

Later addressing a press meet, Bikram Singh Majithia and state BJP chief Shwait Malik alleged that police was taking no action against Mithu Madan and Navjot Kaur Sidhu under pressure from Congress government in state.
GRP cremates unidentified body
The Government Railways Police, meanwhile, cremated an unidentified headless body of a train accident victim after conducting postmortem on Wednesday. DNA of the body has been preserved for the identification in future.
According to the railway police, three persons had came forward to claims the body but none of them returned after they were asked to give the DNA samples.
SHO, GRP Amritsar, Balbir Singh said, “We were left with one body that had no head. There were no belongings in the clothes to identity the body. We were approached by three persons to claim the body. To decide the genuine claimant we offered them to give samples of DNA. None of the claimant came back.”
He added, “We conducted the postmortem of the body and later it was creamated. We have preserved DNA samples and it would help us to identify the close blood relatives of deceased in future and it will be also helpful in deciding on the beneficiary of compensation.”
