Regulation of live-in relationships and giving equal rights to women in property as well as in other aspects of life were the two main suggestions offered to the expert committee constituted to examine and prepare a draft for the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand at a public interaction organised in the state capital on Wednesday.

The committee held two meetings on Wednesday: first with representatives of various state commissions in Dehradun, and later a “jan samvad” — or public interaction — to invite suggestions.

On Thursday, the five-member panel, headed by former Supreme Court judge, Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, will meet representatives of different political parties to listen to their suggestions.
