Among 21 who escaped juvenile home, Jharkhand teen dies after being chased out of railway station
The 17-year-old minor, a resident of Jamshedpur, was lodged at the observation home for the past four months in connection with a theft case.
Questioning the conduct of the police and the administration, the minor's mother said, “Whether my son was a thief or not is for the court to decide, but is it justice to let him die like this?” An inmate, who was among the 21 juveniles who had escaped from the Chaibasa Juvenile Observation Home, has died after coming in contact with an overhead wire.
The 17-year-old minor, a resident of Jamshedpur, was lodged at the observation home for the past four months in connection with a theft case.
Ashutosh Shekhar, SP, Chaibasa, West Singhbhum, said that “as per unofficial information” the incident occurred a couple of days after the minor escaped and he died during treatment two to three days ago.
According to police sources, after escaping from the facility along with others on April 1, the minor tried to seek shelter near Tatanagar railway station but locals allegedly chased him out as they suspected him to be a thief. On the run, the minor tried to cross a coal-laden goods train but came in contact with an overhead electric wire and sustained severe burn injuries.
